Join A Rock Musical
The Mercy Project is a new musical making its debut on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019, at The Fairfield Company’s Stage One. The dress rehearsal will be in the afternoon, with the performance that night.
Vocal / Acting Audition
Auditioning actors/singers on July 13, 10am-12pm, at the Willoughby Wallace Memorial Library’s gallery, 146 Thimble Islands Rd, Branford. The genre of music is rock. You may bring 1 song of your choice (keyboard and amplifier will be present), that you feel best showcases your vocals, plus we will send you links to a couple of the show’s songs beforehand to also use for the audition. If interested but cannot make the date, contact us and we will try to accommodate an alternate time. Email with the words “Mercy Audition” in the subject line to email@example.com.
The need is for 6 stage performers, 2 females and 4 males, and a 5 piece pit band. With the exception of 1 male playing a 50 year old, all will be playing the part of someone in their 20’s. Each cast member will have at least two solo numbers plus some ensemble work. Basic dance moves are desired. The lead male role, which has the lion’s share of the stage time with 7 songs, is still up for grabs.
Piano Accompanist Needed
A keyboard accompanist is also needed, with synthesizer capabilities. Most songs will be performed with the full band. Style of music is 70’s & 80’s influenced rock… all songs are original.
Rehearsals will begin in July, one night per week, with potential for breakout sessions when we hit tough spots. September may see a more rigorous schedule, depending on our progress.
This is a workshop performance, so compensation is a token sum (min $100), paid the night of the show based on ticket sales. More info will be provided at audition. The expectation is that there will be more shows booked in 2020.
The script is a contemporary story that follows its lead character, twenty-five year old Mike Mercy, through ups and downs of love and life. He has the perfect girl, yet instead of being on top of the world he keeps getting stuck in the weeds, as he cannot break his routine of getting high. Encouraged by his mature neighbor to clean up his act or risk losing the love of his life, his light-hearted burnout friend is less of a positive influence, causing good and bad times for our hero. Being pursued by a lovely coworker with a boxer for a boyfriend, is not helping the situation. Rock music of the 70’s and 80’s influenced its 18 original songs, which follow the powerful emotions of the story.
Performance run time is approx. 1 1/2 hours.
