SIMSBURY LIGHT OPERA SEEKS FREDERIC FOR “THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE.”
The Simsbury Light Opera Company (SLOCO) is looking for a tenor for the part of Frederic in our March/April 2020 production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s “The Pirates of Penzance.” SLOCO, Connecticut’s oldest Gilbert & Sullivan company, is a fun-loving, welcoming, talented group of light opera singers.
Frederic – Tenor (D3-A4)
Frederic is a principal role with a large amount of dialogue and singing. As an orphan boy, he was apprenticed to a band of pirates until the age of 21. When he reaches his 21st year, he assumes he is free. However, he was born on February 29, so he is indebted to them for much longer. He is not in agreement with their way of life, but fights with them due to his strong sense of duty. They capture the Major General who had used deception to save himself and his wards from the pirates. Policemen arrive to save the day, and Frederic gets his girl, Mabel, in the end. It’s a great role!
The show will be fully staged and costumed, with chamber orchestra. SLOCO rehearses Sunday and Tuesday evenings in Simsbury at 5 Herman Drive. Dues of $50 are required. There is no stipend. Performances are March 28, and April 4 & 5th at Eno Memorial Hall in Simsbury.
