The Young People’s Center for Creative Arts is now accepting enrollment for our 2013 summer theater camp to take place at East Hampton High School during the month of July. YPCCA is a non-profit theater arts camp devoted to bringing musical theater to students in the central Connecticut area.
The Young People’s Center for Creative Arts is also excited to announce our summer 2012 show, Chicago. Chicago tells the tale of wanna-be star Roxie Hart, who hopes to make it big in showbiz. Trapped in a loveless marriage to dull Amos, Roxie murders her lying boyfriend for trying to walk out on her. While awaiting trial, Roxie and fellow convict Velma Kelly join forces to plot their strategy with the help of star attorney, Billy Flynn. He hatches a defense for both women that rocks the legal system to its core, gaining their freedom. As their fame fades, Roxie and Velma realize that their big break was only an illusion. This sharp edged satire features a dazzling score that sparked immortal staging by Bob Fosse.
Mornings at the camp are devoted to workshops in a variety of artistic endeavors including Show Choir, Stage Combat, Comedy Improvisation and Shakespeare. Afternoons are spent rehearsing for our full-length musical production. This year we also plan to march in East Hampton’s Old Home Day parade where in 2009, YPCCA won an award for our float and performance!
Chicago auditions will take place at the Goff House at 2 Barton Hill Road in East Hampton on Sunday, June 16th. It is NOT mandatory to audition to participate in the camp – everyone is in the show whether they audition or not. Students will be asked to sing, dance and read at the auditions. All young women interested in leading roles in the show should come prepared for an extensive dance audition. The cast list will be announced the first day of camp.
YPCCA will take place Monday, July 1st through Sunday, July 28th, 2013. It is open to students entering grades six through freshman year of college and is located at East Hampton High School. Tuition for the four-week program is $525.00 per student if you register by May 1st, 2012. We also offer two full and two partial scholarships each summer.
YPCCA will also be heading to Broadway this summer to see “Matilda”. All campers are eligible for the trip that includes transportation, lunch and the show for $100.
The staff of YPCCA is made up of professional actors and teachers from throughout Connecticut. Students and staff of the program have gone on to work and perform on Broadway as well as regional theaters including Long Wharf Theater, Goodspeed Opera House, Hartford Stage and the Eugene O’Neil Theater.
