The Colchester Community Theatre Summer Children’s Workshop proudly presents “The Castaways” on Saturday, July 25 at 2:00 p.m. in the Bacon Academy High School Auditorium. This show is presented through special arrangement by Shawnee Press. Grounded in historical fact, The Castaways’ plot, delivered through flashbacks, reveals the struggles of immigrant children on the streets of New York City in the early 1900s. Ultimately, the happy ending for these “castaways” takes them to homes with Midwestern families. Their poignant stories sensitize today’s children to the stark realities of homelessness.
Tickets for this production are $5.00 each (adults & children) and can be purchased at the door on the day of performance. Due to the theme of our show, audience members are encouraged to bring items to be donated to Colchester Food Bank. Some items they look for are: cereal, oatmeal, pasta, pasta sauce, peanut butter, jelly, tuna, beans, macaroni and cheese, and soup. They also look for non-food items such as toothpaste, laundry detergent, deodorant and paper. No glass jar items please. Youth & Social Services works to eliminate hunger in Colchester by providing food and other necessities to our most vulnerable neighbors in a dignified and respectful manner. On average, the food bank serves 150-200 families providing 5,000 – 6,000 pounds of food each month.
