Casting Comedy of Errors

Shakesperience Productions, Inc. is excited to announce auditions for their upcoming mainstage production of THE COMEDY OF ERRORS by William Shakespeare, directed by Artistic Director Emily Mattina. While Shakesperience’s studio is based in Downtown Waterbury, this production will be performed in Washington Depot in the Litchfield Hills.

Shakesperience Productions educates and inspires students, families, and theater professionals through the arts in order to explore social constructs and foster mutual respect for all people. Shakesperience creates innovative, interactive, thought-provoking live theatre programs rooted in classical literature by focusing on the dynamic relationship between the artist and the audience. Non-equity performance contracts available. Housing provided for professionals. Some non-paid/student roles available. Salary Pending.

Auditions will be held on April 13th from 10:00AM – 12:00PM in Washington, CT and from 1:00PM – 3:30PM at Shakesperience Productions in Waterbury, CT. Auditions will be by appointment only. Callbacks will be by appointment.

Rehearsals for the show begin July 17th. Performances run August 7-11th.

Audition will consist of a 1-minute classical monologue in verse. Sides from the play will be available.

SOLINUS (Possibly to cast as equity)
The Duke of Ephesus.

EGEON (Possibly to cast as equity)
A merchant from Syracuse, Egeon is the father of twin boys (both named Antipholus) and the husband of Emilia. He has grieved the loss of his thought-dead wife and son.

ANTIPHOLUS OF EPHESUS (Intend to cast as equity)
The long-lost twin brother of Antipholus of Syracuse. Must have excellent comedic timing and a great facility for language.

ANTIPHOLUS OF SYRACUSE (Intend to cast as equity)
The long-lost twin brother of Antipholus of Ephesus. Must have excellent comedic timing and a great facility for language.

DROMIO OF EPHESUS (Intend to cast as non-equity)
Servant of Antipholus of Ephesus. Lost twin of Dromio of Syracuse. Strong physical comedian.

DROMIO OF SYRACUSE (Intend to cast as non-equity)
Servant of Antipholus of Syracuse. Lost twin of Dromio of Ephesus. Strong physical comedian.

ANGELO (Intend to cast as equity)
A goldsmith.

DOCTOR PINCH (Intend to cast as non-equity)
A schoolmaster/doctor.

EMILIA (Possibly to cast as equity)
The long-lost wife of Egeon, Emilia became an abbess at Ephesus after the shipwreck.

ADRIANA (Intend to cast as non-equity)
Wife of Antipholus of Ephesus.

LUCIANA (Intend to cast as non-equity)
Adriana’s sister.

NELL (Intend to cast as non-equity)
The wife of Dromio of Ephesus and servant of Adriana.

COURTESAN (Intend to cast as non-equity)
Member of the community of Ephesus, Courtesan sings with the busker and chorus.

JAILER (Intend to cast as non-equity)
Featured ensemble role.

CLOCK CHORUS/MUSICIANS (Intend to cast as non-equity)
6 youth performers. Must be accomplished singers.

APPRENTICE TO ANGLEO (Intend to cast as non-equity)
A teenaged Goldsmith’s apprentice. Ensemble role.

APPRENTICE TO JAILER (Intend to cast as non-equity)
A teenaged Jailer’s apprentice. Ensemble role.

A roaming musician.
