Bridgeport Summer Stage presents “The Music Man JR” – Enroll Today

Bridgeport Summer Stage, an immersive musical theatre education program, will present its annual Back to School Session this fall with “The Music Man Jr.”  Featuring a professional staff and participants grades 1-10 from Fairfield County, “The Music Man Jr.” will start rehearsals on September 18th and run for one weekend only, Nov 3-4, 2018 at the John J. Cox Student Center at the University of Bridgeport 244 University in Bridgeport, CT.

Featuring a cast of 1st-10th graders – this abridged version of Meredith Willson’s classic musical is a fantastic opportunity to experience one of the best musical comedies from the golden age of Broadway. The event will be presented with a $5 suggested donation. Performances are Sat Nov 3 @ 7:30pm, and Sun Nov 4 @ 2pm.

Students will rehearse the show Tuesdays and Thursdays 5-6:30pm and Saturdays 10am-1pm at the University of Bridgeport. They will audition for roles on the first day, and will be welcomed to participate in a variety of acting, voice and dance workshops when not rehearsing the show.

THE MUSIC MAN follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize – this despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian, who aims to transform him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall.

The all-local production staff includes Direction by Christy-McIntosh-Newsom, Music Direction by Eli Newsom, Choreography by Madeleine Tommins, Scenic Design by Matt Pretka, Costume Design by Jessica Camarero, Lighting Design by Don Rowe, and Sound Design by Eli Newsom, with Lauren Linn serving as Production Stage Manager and Chelsea Dacey serving as Parent Liaison. Bridgeport Summer Stage is led by Christy McIntosh-Newsom.

Enrollment is $395 and scholarships and financial aid are available.
