Auditions for “Xanadu”
XANADU follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first ROLLER DISCO! (Hey, it’s 1980!) But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds. This hilarious, roller skating, musical adventure about following your dreams despite the limitations others set for you, rolls along to the original hit score composed by pop-rock legends Jeff Lynne and John Farrar, and includes, “Magic”, “All Over The World”, “Suddenly”, “I’m Alive”, “Evil Woman”, “Have You Never Been Mellow” and “Xanadu”, to name a few, and is based on the Universal Pictures’ cult classic movie of the same title, which starred Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly. It’s hilarity on wheels for adults, children and anyone who has ever wanted to feel inspired. You’ll want to keep the music in your head, and XANADU in your heart, forever.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS
Accompanist will be provided. Come with sheet music for pianist and prepared to sing 16 bars ONLY from a Broadway score in the lighter preferably pop genre. Be familiar with at least one song from the stage version of XANADU in case you are asked to sing from the score. Be prepared to learn a brief movement routine.
THERE ARE NO NON-SINGING ROLES.
KIRA / CLIO: Age range: 20s to early 30s.Youngest of Zeus’s daughters who falls in love with Sonny. Requires strong comedienne who can effect an overblown Australian accent. Role requires versatile and strong singing voice comfortable with pop. Actress MUST be able to roller skate as she spends 95% of the show on skates. Looking for pretty, lithe and preferably blonde Olivia Newton-John look. VOCAL RANGE G3 – C6
SONNY MALONE: Age range: 20s to early 30s.Insecure artist who falls in love with Kira. He is a California beach artist and not the sharpest crayon in the box. Handsome and hunky preferably with athletic build. Role requires versatile and strong singing voice comfortable with pop. VOCAL RANGE D3 – C5
DANNY MAGUIRE / ZEUS: Age range: 40s/50s.Hard-nosed, middle-aged businessman who owns the Xanadu theatre. Acerbic and deadpan comedian with singing ability. VOCAL RANGE : C3 – D4
CALLIOPE / APHRODITE: Age range: 40s – early 50s. Kira’s jealous sister and fellow muse who plots against her. Looking for strong, inventive but controlled and serious comedienne. Strong vocal abilities necessary and some dancing/movement skills but type, shape, size can be any. VOCAL RANGE: B3 – D5.
MELPOMENE / MEDUSA: Age range: 40s – early 50s. Kira’s oldest sister, who creates the plot for Kira’s downfall out of jealousy. Looking for strong, inventive but controlled and serious comedienne. Strong vocal abilities necessary and some dancing/movement skills but type, shape, size can be any. VOCAL RANGE: G3 – E5.
Four other muses played by two men and two women. ALL must sing well, move/dance well and be versatile comedians. (THALIA should have some tap experience) Age range: 20s – early 40s.
