The Connecticut Gilbert & Sullivan Society will be holding auditions on Sunday, July 11th 6PM-9PM and Tuesday July 13th 7PM-9PM for its November 2021 production of Ruddigore. Auditions will be held at Congregation Adath Israel, 8 Broad Street, Middletown, CT.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS AND RESTRICTIONS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT & FOLLOW
• We require that everyone involved in the show, cast, crew, orchestra, all be fully vaccinated for COVID 19. You must provide proof of vaccination when you arrive for auditions.
• When/If you are at the auditions but are not auditioning, you will be required to wear a face mask that covers your mouth and nose and maintain social distancing. You can remove the mask only when you are auditioning.
• Food and beverages are not allowed inside Adath Israel. Adath Israel is additionally requiring that we do not bring in any personal water bottles. But you are allowed to bring bottled water for yourself.
• As time goes on, and the risk of COVID infection goes down, we hope to be able to ease requirements for masking and social distancing. But you will be required to follow whatever procedures and protocols that are imposed upon us by our rehearsal space and venue providers and any other procedures and protocols that we as a group decide that we need to put in place in order to assure your and other’s safety.
Those who are trying out for one of the principal roles in the show must audition; both singing something (preferably in English and preferably from a G&S show) and doing one or more readings. Remember to bring sheet music for our accompanist.
To offer additional opportunities to auditioners to win a lead role in our show, and to make sure that we have coverage for each such role in case someone gets sick, we try, whenever possible, to double cast all our principal roles. If you are double cast in a principal role, you are required to perform in chorus in those performances in which you are not performing in your principal role.
You do not need to audition If you have sung/performed with us before, and are not trying out for one of the principal roles and would like to be in our chorus,
Those who have not sung with us before also do not need to audition on July 11th or 13th to be in our chorus but may be asked by our Music Director to sing some simple scales at our first rehearsal. All will be asked to provide proof of vaccination at first rehearsal on August 1st.
If you are not auditioning but are planning to be in our chorus, please send an email to John Freedman (email@example.com). In addition to providing your contact information please let us know your vocal range: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone, Bass. The size of our women’s and men’s choruses has a bearing on a number of things in working out the details of staging the show including blocking, choreography, and costuming. When you reply please cc John Dreslin (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Spencer Reese (email@example.com).
Full rehearsals are held every Sunday evening 6-9PM, and are held at Congregation Adath Israel, Middletown, CT.
Our first rehearsal will be Sunday, August 1st, 6PM. There are additional rehearsals for just our principals on Tuesday evenings 7PM-10PM, with different principals being required to attend on different Tuesdays in the rehearsal schedule.
We currently do not have a venue for the show. The show will be performed at the Valley Regional High School, Deep River, CT or the Santo Fragilio Performing Arts Center at Middletown High School Performing Arts Center. Tentative dates and times are: Saturday, November 6th at 2PM and 7:30PM and Sunday, November 7th at 2PM.
