Pablo, a high-powered lawyer, and doctoral candidate Tania, his very pregnant wife, are realizing the American dream when they purchase a house next door to community stalwarts Virginia and Frank. But a disagreement over a longstanding fence line soon spirals into an all-out war of taste, class, privilege and entitlement. The hilarious results guarantee no one comes out smelling like a rose.
Tania Del Valle – early thirties; smart, likeable, positive, passionate, highly-energized, pregnant PhD candidate and gardener. “See? I’m New Mexican. From the Southwest. But people think of me as much more foreign than you.”
Pablo Del Valle – early thirties, smart likeable, ambitious, savvy young attorney. “I’m from Las Condes Santiago, Chile. I did boarding school here.”
Virginia Butley – sixty to mid-seventies; smart, likeable, assertive, direct, no-nonsense engineer. “I on the other hand, am Polish-American. I like claiming the old country.”
Frank Butley – sixty to mid-seventies; smart, likeable, excitable, caring, detail-oriented federal employee and gardener. “A wealthy New England blue blood.”
Also needed: 2-4 extras to play the silent roles of Surveyor, Landscapers, and Building Examiner. From the script: “These workers should preferably be Latinx and exude unique personalities as they work.”
