CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

THE BAKER – Male presenting, 30s—40s, any ethnicity. Vocal Range: A Flat 2-G4. Well-meaning and neurotic, with a big heart. He loves his family but doesn’t know how to show it. He was abandoned as a child and struggles to connect with his community. Always has good intentions.

THE BAKER’S WIFE – Female presenting, 30s—40s, any ethnicity. Vocal Range: F3-G5. She often puts the needs (and egos) of those around her before her own. Struggles to balance the love she has for her family with her desire for adventure. She’s hardworking and very perceptive.

CINDERELLA – Female presenting, 20s, any ethnicity. Vocal Range: G3-G5. Earnest and vulnerable. She’s been taken for granted long enough and is ready to stand up for herself. She longs for safety and a community of her own. Much more adaptable than people think.

THE WITCH – Female presenting, 40s—50s, any ethnicity. Vocal Range: F3-G5. She has her own moral code and is unbothered by society’s expectations. She’s powerful but cannot accept the limitations of that power. More compassionate than she’ll ever let on.

LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD – Female presenting, 18+ to play younger, any ethnicity. Vocal Range: B flat 3-F5. A curious and naive young girl. She’s often too trusting of strangers and is quite fearless. She has to grow up quicker than expected. Has strong comedic timing.

JACK – Male presenting, 18+ to play younger, any ethnicity. Vocal Range: B2-G4. He is a constant daydreamer and the reluctant provider for his family. He’s often unable to read his surroundings but can rise to any occasion in a crisis.

JACK’S MOTHER – Female presenting, 40s—60s, any ethnicity. Vocal Range: B flat 3-F5. A single mother left by her husband. She loves her son but is run ragged by the realities of life. She will defend him in the face of incredible odds.

NARRATOR/MYSTERIOUS MAN – Male presenting, 50s—60s, any ethnicity. Vocal Range: G2-E4. The NARRATOR is objective and impartial to the fairytale antics that surround him. Intellectual and good-natured. The MYSTERIOUS MAN has spent a lifetime running away from his mistakes. He’s whimsical and untouchable but hides a deep pain.

CINDERELLA’S PRINCE/WOLF – Male-presenting, 30s—40s, any ethnicity. Vocal Range: B2-F4. CINDERELLA’S PRINCE is in love with love…and himself. He only wants what he can’t have. He’s used his looks and wealth to coast through life and is terrible in a crisis. The WOLF is a predator. He beguiles his victims with his charm until it’s too late. Thinks he’s a rockstar.

RAPUNZEL’S PRINCE – Male presenting, 30s—40s, any ethnicity. Vocal Range: C Sharp 3–E4. The younger prince. Less is expected from him, so he receives less attention. A hopeless romantic who’s in love with love. The women in his life are ultimately interchangeable.

RAPUNZEL – Female presenting, 20s, any ethnicity. Vocal Range: B3-A5. She’s spent her entire life being protected from the world. Restless and sheltered, until she loses the only family she’s ever known. Her newfound independence is unkind to her.

GRANNY/CINDERELLA’S MOTHER – Female presenting, 40s—60s, any ethnicity. Vocal Range: A3-F Sharp 5. GRANNY is the salt of the earth and deeply passionate about life. CINDERELLA’S MOTHER is the ghostly figure of the kind mother that Cinderella knew when she was a child. Her spirit looks after her daughter. The GIANT was once a warm and compassionate woman who was betrayed by Jack and is looking for revenge.

CINDERELLA’S STEPMOTHER – Female presenting, 40s—50s, any ethnicity. Vocal Range: A3-F Sharp 5. The ultimate social climber, she views her children as extensions of herself. Cruel and materialistic.

LUCINDA – Female presenting, 20s, any ethnicity. Vocal Range: C4-A Flat 5. Cinderella’s stepsister. Shallow and a bully. The world revolves around her.

FLORINDA – Female presenting, 20s, any ethnicity. Vocal Range: C4-A Flat 5. Cinderella’s stepsister. Shallow and a bully. Oblivious to her flaws.

STEWARD – Male presenting, 30s, any ethnicity. Loyal to a fault. Loves order and wants to maintain it, even in absurd circumstances. Has strong comedic timing. No solo singing.

CINDERELLA’S FATHER – Male presenting, 40s—50s, any ethnicity. Willfully ignorant. Prioritizes his new family over his first daughter. No solo singing.

MILKY WHITE – Male or female presenting – any age or ethnicity. A sad sickly cow. Must be a versatile performer with strong comedic timing. Puppetry experience is a plus. No solo singing.

We are committed to building diversity and inclusion onstage and throughout our organization. Actors of all ethnicities, gender identities, and abilities are highly encouraged to audition.
