Production Description:

Apples and Oranges Arts is casting roles for a staged reading of “AIRBORN” premiering at the SHU Community Theatre in Fairfield, CT. Union and non-union actors are encouraged to apply.
Note: Actors must be able to provide their own housing / transportation.
Storyline: The world’s most daring female flyers take off in the first ever National Women’s Air Derby in 1929, but when the pilots discover the race is set up for them to fail, they must put aside their rivalries and place their lives on the line for the future of women in flight.
Possible in person callback on June 25; rehearses between July 25-30 at the SHU Community Theatre in Fairfield, CT. Minimum of a $200 stipend

LOUISE THADEN: 18 to 30 years old, all ethnicities female. A meticulous and logical pilot, determined, sincere. Great singer with a Broadway pop sound. Alto

MARVEL CROSSON: 18 to 30 years old, all ethnicities female. A bright, charismatic pilot, daredevil. Great singer with a Broadway pop sound. Alto

AMELIA EARHART: 18 to 35 years old, all ethnicities female. A famous aviator, women’s rights activist, and advisor. Soprano

PANCHO BARNES: 18 to 35 years old, all ethnicities female. A broad, brash, loudmouthed, cigar-smoking pilot. Alto

RUTH ELDER: 18 to 30 years old, all ethnicities female. The beauty queen pilot, glamorous, flashy. Soprano

HERB VON THADEN / LT. FAHY / MARIACHI / ENSEMBLE: 18 to 35 years old, all ethnicities male. HERB VON THADEN: Louise’s husband, concerned and kind. LT. FAHY: Claire’s militaristic husband, stern and intimidating. Tenor

CLAIRE FAHY / ENSEMBLE / RADIO TECHNICIAN: 18 to 25 years old, all ethnicities female. A dutiful wife-turned-pilot, beholden to husband Lt. Fahy. Soprano / Alto

CLIFF HENDERSON / MECHANIC: 20 to 40 years old, all ethnicities male. A director of National Air Races, curt and calculating. Tenor / Baritone

WILEY POST/ PHOTOGRAPHER / ENSEMBLE/ MARIACHI/ MAN: 20 to 40 years old, all ethnicities male. Will’s friend and adventurous pilot, wears a white eye-patch. Tenor / Baritone
