FOCUS FUNDAMENTALS OF ACTING FOR TEENS
Course Description: Students of this course will be introduced to the essential components of acting through a structured series of exercises focusing on the following: Voice and Speech, Text Analysis, Physical Action, Motivation, The Five Senses, Objectives and Beats, Sense Memory, Substitution and Characterization. Course participants will come away with a strong audition monologue and a dependable “actor’s toolkit” to utilize in future auditions and roles. Level: Beginner to Intermediate [Grades 7-12]

FOCUS SCENE STUDY LABORATORY FOR TEENS
Course Description: Students of this course will be assigned roles in dramatic and/or comedic scenes by great playwrights, including Williams, Howe, Miller, Chekov, Lebow, Coward, O’Neill, Shakespeare and Wilde. They will be required to study the play in its entirety at home to better understand their character in context of the story, the first requirement of any actor approaching a role. With intensive assistance from the instructor, student directors will be selected to block the scenes and guide the actors through their rehearsal and discovery process, including the physical presentation of the character. This course focuses on a final product, with a fully staged presentation of scenes for family and friends upon completion. Level: Beginner to Intermediate [Grades 7-12] Student Min.: 8 / Max:15
Tuition: $180 9 Sessions [8 classes + final performance] SAT. 10/6/18- SAT 12/1/18 (skips 11/24) / Times: 12:15 – 2:00 p.m.

Lara Morton is a freelance theatre educator, director, performer and playwright who has been working professionally in educational theatre for over twenty years, working with students of all ages and levels of ability, interest, comfort levels and experience. Passionate about the power of theatre to transform lives, she has a keen ability to identify and enhance students’ natural gifts while also strengthening their self-image, problem-solving skills and relationship to the world around them. Ms. Morton has
previously served as Artistic Director/Playwright-in-Residence for the Yale-based Open End Theatre, Program Director for Young Audiences of CT (Arts for Learning), and Assistant Director of the Mental Health Association Players (Binghamton, NY), and in recent years has taught and directed at The Madison Arts Barn, Wagner-Iovanna Studio Productions, West Haven Council on the Arts, Milford Public Schools, West Haven Child Development Center, Davis Street Arts & Academics Interdistrict Magnet School, Amistad Academy, The Greater New Haven J.C.C., Tabor Arts Center and Lyme-Old Lyme High School. As a playwright, she has been honored with several professional staged readings in Manhattan (Epic Theatre Ensemble, 2011) and New Jersey (Speranza Theatre, 2013), and her one-woman touring educational piece about CT State Heroine Prudence Crandall has been gracing Connecticut stages since 1999.
In her spare time, she has a great time working as a face painter for all manner of events and is a fully background-checked substitute teacher for Madison Public Schools and New Haven Public Schools.
